چکیده

In this paper, we present a new approach to the least-squares design of stable infinite impulse response (IIR) digital filters. The design is accomplished by using an iterative scheme in which the denominator polynomial obtained from the preceding iteration is treated as a part of the weighting function, and each iteration is carried out by solving a standard quadratic programming problem that yields a stable rational function. When the iteration converges, a stable and truly leastsquares solution is obtained. The method is then extended to address the least-squares design of stable IIR two-dimensional (2-D) filters. Examples are included to illustrate the proposed design techniques.

Low latency IIR digital filter design by using metaheuristic optimization algorithms

Filters are particularly important class of LTI systems. Digital filters have great impact on modern signal processing due to their programmability, reusability, and capacity to reduce noise to a satisfactory level. From the past few decades, IIR digital filter design is an important research field. Design of an IIR digital filter with desired specifications leads to a no convex optimization pr...

A Unified Approach for the Design of 2-D Digital Filters via Semidefinite Programming

This paper attempts to demonstrate that a modern optimization methodology known as semidefinite programming (SDP) can be served as the algorithmic core of a unified design tool for a variety of two-dimensional (2-D) digital filters. Representative SDP-based designs presented in the paper include minimax and weighted least-squares designs of FIR filters with continuous and discrete coefficients,...

Reply to "Comments on 'A weighted least-squares method for the design of stable 1-D and 2-D IIR digital filters'"

A recent iterative procedure by Lu et al. for designing IIR filters is recognized as the Sanathanan–Koerner or Steiglitz–McBride iteration, which was proposed originally in 1963 and 1965, respectively, for system identification purposes. We re-examine some claims and issues related to Lu et al.’s paper1 in view of various properties that have been deduced for the Steiglitz–McBride iteration in ...

Design of linear phase IIR filters via weighted least-squares approximation

A new method for designing IIR digital filters with linear phase in the passband is proposed. This method is based on frequency weighted least-square error optimization using the BFGS method [15]. The gradient of the cost function with respect to the design parameters, required for the implementation of the BFGS method, is derived. The proposed method is started by obtaining an initial IIR filt...

Design of Stable IIR Digital Filters With Equiripple Passbands and Peak-Constrained Least-Squares Stopbands

This paper describes an algorithmic development for the design of stable infinite impulse response (IIR) digital filters with equiripple passbands and peak-constrained leastsquares stopbands. Central to the development is a re-formulation of the design problem as an iterative quadratic programming problem where the stability and equiripple passbands and peakconstrained requirements are met by i...
